A Particularly Uninspiring Set of Choices

Everyone’s heard the metaphor about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. To extend it, I find the 43rd District Democratic primary to be a passionate squabble between six wannabe captains over which iceberg to steer the Titanic into.

On critical urban livability issues, they’re that bad. The entire lot is nothing but variations on the same theme that has already ruined much of Seattle’s former livability.

Any good ideas for creative ways to spoil a ballot for that race?

Nuclear War against Iran: In Their Own Words

Thought I was nuts for saying that the neofascists (again, they are not conservatives) may want to start nuclear war against Iran?

Think again.

Going back into Hibernation, Plus a Blog Recommendation

And on that charming note, I once again depart this space to concentrate on other non-computer activities.

That last link, by the way, comes via a Lebanese blogger that you might want to check out

Up to Their Old Propaganda Tricks Again

The corporate media is at it again, once more attempting to pass off any criticism of the US ruling class as “anti-Americanism.” Some things never change.

Let’s see now. Chavez starts by mentioning an American author (Noam Chomsky) approvingly. Then he goes on to demonstrate he knows the difference between a government and its citizens when he says (also in the same speech) “The hegemonic pretensions of the American empire are placing at risk the very survival of the human species. We continue to warn you about this danger and we appeal to the people of the United States and the world to halt this threat, which is like a sword hanging over our heads [emphasis added].” And he sells oil at discounted prices to disadvantaged Americans.

Yet somehow he still manages to get the label “anti-American” as opposed to, say, “anti-Bush.” One would think the latter wouldn’t be a particularly difficult phrase for the establishment media to master; it’s not as if it requires them to say “anti-American ruling class” or any other such phraseology which pays homage to the elephant in the living room.

But, silly me, that would require at least a modicum of independence from the establishment.
