{"id":4798,"date":"2020-10-20T16:18:04","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T23:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blackcap.name\/blog\/new\/?p=4798"},"modified":"2020-10-20T16:18:27","modified_gmt":"2020-10-20T23:18:27","slug":"victory-in-bolivia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blackcap.name\/blog\/new\/?p=4798","title":{"rendered":"Victory in Bolivia, but Will it Hold?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, <a href=\"\/blog\/new\/?p=4402\">the coup<\/a> that the Right used to seize power in the wake of <a href=\"\/blog\/new\/?p=4385\">the popular rebellion<\/a> against a caudillo-in-the-making <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSKBN2742FN\">has failed<\/a>. <a href=\"\/blog\/new\/?p=4761\">As expected<\/a>, once the right-wing caretaker government was compelled to hold a free and fair election, MAS-IPSP won it handily.<\/p>\n<p>This is really about the most optimistic thing that could have happened: popular rebellions against first a left-wing leader who got addicted to power, then against the right-wing usurper who tried to take advantage of the first rebellion.<\/p>\n<p>Now we shall see if the new order holds. I have long had <a href=\"\/blog\/new\/?p=182\">a measure of optimism<\/a> about the revolutionary process in Bolivia that is rare for me, and that Bolivia just managed the rare feat of repudiating left-wing authoritarianism without reverting to right-wing rule shows this optimism is not entirely misplaced.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest peril now is what happens when Morales returns to Bolivia, as he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/news\/world\/morales-says-will-return-to-bolivia-after-ally-election-13316340\">almost certainly will<\/a>.
