After all, Trump is himself on record as saying in 2015:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I have a little conflict of interest \u2019cause I have a major, major building in Istanbul. It\u2019s a tremendously successful job. It\u2019s called Trump Towers\u2014two towers, instead of one, not the usual one; it\u2019s two\u2026 They have a strong leader.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To that add an investigation into Trump&#8217;s willful complicity with the genocide Saudi Arabia is currently committing in Yemen. Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/truth-o-meter\/statements\/2018\/oct\/18\/donald-trump\/donald-trumps-claim-no-financial-interests-saudi-a\/\">has business links with the House of Saud<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s <em>particularly<\/em> tragic about this failure is that carping on these issues could be expected to have a significant degree of cross-party appeal, and thus be able to peel off a fraction of the GOP vote. And it doesn&#8217;t require compromising any way on core principles, unless for some reason being weak on corruption is a core principle.<\/p>\n<p>But, neither announcement happened.
