{"id":3630,"date":"2018-08-24T14:10:52","date_gmt":"2018-08-24T21:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blackcap.name\/blog\/new\/?p=3630"},"modified":"2018-08-24T14:11:49","modified_gmt":"2018-08-24T21:11:49","slug":"the-risk-of-war-is-increasing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blackcap.name\/blog\/new\/?p=3630","title":{"rendered":"The Risk of War is Increasing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/blog\/new\/?p=3450\">As predicted<\/a>, the deal with North Korea has basically <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/trump-calls-off-pompeos-north-korea-visit-citing-a-lack-of-progress-on-denuclearization\/2018\/08\/24\/5349733a-8915-45ee-b075-ae840d9d272b_story.html\">crumbled<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now we move on to one of the other predictions in my earlier post: the stage where the deal makes the world <em>less<\/em> safe from the risk of war, because it means Trump realizes he was Baby Kim&#8217;s rube. Not only that, the deal crumbled at the moment when the noose really seems to be tightening around Trump&#8217;s neck with respect to the Mueller investigation, giving Trump an even <em>greater<\/em> motive towards bellicosity. There&#8217;s nothing like war to distract the masses from a domestic scandal, after all.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Nichols <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RadioFreeTom\/status\/1033082369819979776\">doesn&#8217;t seem to think this is likely<\/a>. I wish I could be as sanguine as Nichols on this one. Yes, Nichols is correct in that Trump is no master at quantum multidimensional political chess; events of the past several years have shown clearly that Trump is barely capable of playing political checkers. But Nichols is also a conservative and a member of the defense establishment, which will naturally tend to lead him to turn a blind eye to ideologically (and career-wise) inconvenient insights about ruling classes&#8217; propensity to use war for domestic political purposes.<\/p>\n<p>So while I certainly <em>hope<\/em> Nichols will be proven correct (and he might be, Trump <em>is<\/em> definitely incompetent), I can hardly be sure about that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As predicted, the deal with North Korea has basically crumbled.
