{"id":1708,"date":"2015-06-10T12:49:39","date_gmt":"2015-06-10T19:49:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blackcap.name\/blog\/new\/?p=1708"},"modified":"2015-06-10T12:55:01","modified_gmt":"2015-06-10T19:55:01","slug":"that-old-seattle-cant-do-attitide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blackcap.name\/blog\/new\/?p=1708","title":{"rendered":"That Old Seattle &#8220;Can&#8217;t Do&#8221; Attitide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite how Tacoma has had a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clickcabletv.com\/\">successful, municipally-owned cable TV and Internet utility<\/a> for years, Seattle&#8217;s idea on doing anything vaguely similar is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestranger.com\/news\/feature\/2015\/06\/10\/22360308\/city-officials-reject-creating-a-municipal-broadband-network-to-compete-with-comcast\">big no-can-do.<\/a> It&#8217;s basically the same attitude that made Seattle about forty years late to the game when it comes to building a rail mass transit system.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestranger.com\/news\/feature\/2015\/06\/10\/22360308\/city-officials-reject-creating-a-municipal-broadband-network-to-compete-with-comcast\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course, any time a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Allen\">billionaire<\/a> wants <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattlestreetcar.org\/slu.htm\">pet projects<\/a> for that <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Lake_Union%2C_Seattle\">entire neighborhood<\/a> which he owns, or a taxpayer-funded sports stadium for his team, the City of Seattle sits ready and eager to bark on command. Same if it&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alaskan_Way_Viaduct_replacement_tunnel\">freeway project<\/a>, even if it uses a risky, unproven technology and it&#8217;s a road which would normally be the state government&#8217;s responsibility, anyhow.<\/p>\n<p>Because, well, priorities.
