{"id":145,"date":"2011-09-21T15:32:47","date_gmt":"2011-09-21T22:32:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blackcap.name\/blog\/new\/?p=145"},"modified":"2011-09-21T15:32:47","modified_gmt":"2011-09-21T22:32:47","slug":"unfortunately-i-told-you-so","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blackcap.name\/blog\/new\/?p=145","title":{"rendered":"Unfortunately, I Told You So"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I <a href=\"http:\/\/blackcap.name\/blog\/old\/2011\/03.html#15202258\">said the Fukushima disaster was another Chernobyl.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Nuclear_Event_Scale#Level_7:_Major_accident\">rated by none other than the Japanese government itself<\/a> at the same level of severity as Chernobyl; Fukushima and Chernobyl stand by themselves as the only INES Level 7 incidents in history. Fukushima has a 20 km permanent evacuation zone around it (and Japan has been roundly criticized for not making that larger). Chernobyl has a 30 km zone around it.<\/p>\n<p>By all measures, the two are indeed comparable in severity, even though the types of reactors involved and the specifics of the two catastrophes are very different.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s not over yet. The situation is <em>still<\/em> far from resolved, and there&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2011-09-21\/typhoon-roke-to-pass-tokyo-area-head-toward-fukushima-as-flights-canceled.html\">typhoon<\/a> headed straight for the damaged reactors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I said the Fukushima disaster was another Chernobyl.
